A Note from the Patel Sons
The American dream unites us all. No matter where you were born or what your background, we’re all striving for a better life and a brighter future.
That’s exactly what inspired our family to come to America and build a business from the ground up.
In the 1970s, our father, Henry Patel, came to the United States with his parents and two brothers. He was just 18 years old and barely understood a word of English.
Determined to build a life for himself and his family, Henry helped our grandparents scrape together every dime they could. Together, they purchased the Stadium Motel across from Jones AT&T Stadium in Lubbock, Texas.
Our father knew that with enough work and tenacity, he could get a piece of the American Dream. He knew that in order to be successful, he’d need an education. While working every job at the family hotel in addition to housekeeping services for a local hotel, Henry learned English and studied electrical engineering at Texas Tech University.
The hotel industry continued to be a successful venture for our father and was where he felt most at home. Despite a former boss once telling Dad he’d never be anything more than a housekeeper, Henry believed for more and success followed – as our family grew.
In 1984, Henry married our mother, Neeta, who shared his passion for creating a home in a new, exciting place. The two could be found spending date nights together enjoying ice cream cones while checking on the family’s hotel properties. In time, Henry and Neeta had two sons (us!) – Niraj and Aviraj – and began to put down roots of their own.
In 1991, our parents bought their first hotel together, the Travelers Inn. In 1993, they acquired their first branded hotel – Days Inn. As we grew up in our family’s hotels, our mother taught us the importance of making every space feel like home for each guest while our father taught us dedication to quality and the value of hard work.
Meanwhile, Dad was busy applying his engineering degree to related businesses that would propel our family that much closer to the American Dream. Our parents founded Prem Sales, LLC, which has become one of the nation’s largest and most successful manufacturers of packaged terminal air conditioners (PTACs). Not only did our father get to see his in-wall air conditioners in many of his own hotels, but the success of Prem Sales, LLC allowed our family to expand on our shared passion: the hospitality business.
While Henry’s determination and work ethic helped him realize the American dream, our family’s continued passion and dedication to quality and personalized hospitality have been key to everyone’s success at our growing companies.
Today, our family provides the widest variety of hospitality options in Lubbock. Each unique. Each measuring up to our high standards. Each waiting to be your home away from home.
We invite you to come to Lubbock and stay with us. Stepping into a TAJ Hospitality Management hotel is like stepping into our own home. Rest assured, we will care for you and your loved ones like family – because you are.
